Lohit District, Arunachal Pradesh

Siwani Pul

Siwani Pul, the dedicated Library Incharge of Bamboosa Library, embodies the spirit of community and literacy. With a passion ignited by Uncle Moosa’s storytelling during her childhood, Siwani has devoted her life to fostering a love for reading. Her work involves around classification and collection of books, coordinating programs, and workshops, and ensuring the library remains a bright hub for learning and creativity.

Believing deeply in the power of libraries as safe, organized, and inspiring spaces, Siwani champions the development of reading culture. She understands that libraries are not just about books; they are about building life skills, offering a sanctuary for personal development, and opening doors to new opportunities. Through initiatives like school visits to promote reading, setting up mini-libraries, and personalized book suggestions, Siwani and her team of volunteers work tirelessly to make literature accessible and enjoyable for all.

One of Siwani’s innovative approaches includes ‘magazine day,’ encouraging the exploration of varied interests. Recognizing the unique talents of library visitors, Bamboosa Library encourages artistic expression, with members’ works featured in magazines and radio programs, and hosts educational workshops to further enhance their skills.

A testament to the impact of Siwani’s efforts came from the library’s young readers themselves, who, inspired by the outreach programs, took the initiative to spread the joy of reading to a nearby government primary school. Their determination and the subsequent arrival of new readers from the school they visited highlight the ripple effect of Siwani’s dedication to literacy and community engagement.

Siwani’s vision for the future is one where every school and community has access to a library, supported by the government, volunteers, and the collective will of the people. Her story is hope, showcasing how passion and commitment to literacy can transform communities and enrich lives.
